What a painter does on a UAE site, and how the trade is graded
A painter on a UAE project prepares and finishes surfaces: filling, sanding and priming walls and ceilings, applying emulsion and enamel by brush, roller or spray to the specified coats and finish, cutting in to lines, and protecting everything that is not being painted. Building painters carry the handover programme of towers, villas and fit-outs; decorative painters carry textured, metallic and specialist finishes in hotels and high-end residential; industrial painters blast, prime and coat steel, tanks and floors to a coating specification.
The grade is visible on the wall. A skilled painter prepares to a standard, applies evenly with no misses, holds a straight line and works to the coat schedule without being watched; a semi-skilled painter rolls and brushes prepared surfaces under direction; a painter's helper fills, sands, masks and moves. Spray painters are graded separately, on equipment and finish, and industrial coating crews on surface preparation and film thickness.

How a painter rate is built
A painter's monthly rate is the wage for the specialism and grade plus the real costs of employing the worker, plus administration. Spray and industrial coating painters sit on higher wage lines than building painters; helpers on the lowest; the rest of the rate is the same set of lines for every worker.
Painting gangs are priced by grade with the charge hand on his own line. Government fees change from time to time and are passed through at cost.
